1.Why the new date?
We have listened to your feedback and changed the date to May 31, 2009. Stampede is a very busy time in Calgary and we have heard that hotels were expensive and often full. As well, resources such as entertainment, equipment and city police were difficult for us to secure. Add that to the fact that many people were busy with Stampede activities and summer vacation and it made perfect sense to move the race date to the spring. This gives people a perfect goal for when the weather starts to improve and it takes the race back to when it originated.
2. What about the weather in May - couldn't it snow?
Over the last 7 years, the average high on May 31 was 21 degrees Celcius (70F), the average low 7 (45F), and the mean 13 (56F). Perfect running conditions! There has been no snow or rain on May 31 in the last 7 years other than .4mm of rain in 2003. Contrast this with July 6 (our previous race date) which has had an average high of 23, an average low of 9 and a mean of 16. Three of the last 7 years had rain on July 6. So you can see there is no greater chance of precipitation in May as there is in July.
3. What about the new 2009 course and new venue?
