Sports & Recreation

Calgary was fortunate to host the 1988 Winter Olympics. As a result there is a legacy of sites in the city that celebrate the Olympic ideals and highlight the winter sporting disciplines.

Canada Olympic Park

Houses a museum exhibiting memorabilia from the winter Olympics. You can also visit the Olympic ski jumping, luge, and bobsleigh facilities.

The Olympic Oval

Located at the University of Calgary, the Olympic Oval was the speed skating venue in 1988. The oval is an amazing feat of engineering and was the first indoor Olympic-sized long track speed skating venue in North America - it boasts the 'fastest ice in the world.'

Spruce Meadows

Another world class sporting facility located in the city is Spruce Meadows Equestrian Centre. This world renowned show jumping venue will be hosting two international events around the time of the Stampede Run-Off - 'Canada One' from June 28-July 2 and the 'North American' from July 5-9. This is your chance to see the world’s best horsemen and women put through their paces.
