5K for $6G Contest

The 5K for $6G Contest was a school-based program, sponsored by AstraZeneca developed to encourage students, educators and their families to get active, challenge themselves and have fun together by participating in the Calgary Marathon AstraZeneca Family 5K, a race within the Calgary Marathon event on May 27th.

$6,000 in prizes is up for grabs for the schools with the highest number of participants, based on the percentage of their total school population. The 2011 winning schools, Glenmore Christian Academy (29%) and École Madeleine d'Houet (16.4%) received prize money to provide fitness equipment and wellness learning programs in their schools.

Glenmore Christian Academy also won the early bird contest, for an additional $1,000 in cash for fitness and wellness equipment. Team captains at the winning schools were awarded $500 gift certificates to The Running Room.

School teams are made up of students, teachers, administrative staff, or friends and family. In other words, just about anybody who wants to run or walk and be a part of a school event that brings everyone together.

 

Olympic gold medalists Hayley Wickenheiser and Carla MacLeod (Women's Hockey) and both of their families took part in the 2011 event and the pair will be visiting Calgary and area junior high and high schools this year to encourage participation in the AstraZeneca 5K for $6G Contest.

Whether you are a student, parent, or teacher; seize the opportunity to promote a healthy and active school by entering the AstraZeneca 5K for $6G Contest. Your school could win up to $6000 in prize money and be visited by Olympians Hayley Wickenheiser and Carla MacLeod.
