The Calgary Marathon Society is a not-for-profit organization. There is a cost to put on a world-class event and the majority of those costs are directly related to number of participants. The registration fees collected are used for operational costs like timing services, insurance, road use fees, tent rentals, portable toilets, medals, t-shirts and much more. If for some reason you can’t participate, your registration fees will be put to good use so we don’t offer refunds or registration rollovers to a future year. There are no exceptions.

Sub 3:40 for men
Sub 4:05 for women
Please note there is no prize money however top male and top female will be crowned national champion and be given a special medal.
There will be signs on course and volunteers telling 50K runners where to loop however 50K runners must pay attention as organizers are not responsible for any 50K runners who don't make the proper loop.
In 2015 50K runners received a 50K Ultra event t-shirt at package pick-up in addition to a belt buckle finishers medal along with bragging rights of completing 50K of course!
The 50K Ultra is reserved for runners who have completed at least one marathon (or ultra) in the last 18 months in less than 4.5 hours (or pro-rated for ultra distances).
The criteria is 100% strictly logistical as our municipal road permit relies on us being off the city roads in 6.5 hours and the course is pro-rated. This means we can't have any more roads for any extra length of time. In order to put on our road race and in this case a special event that is longer than our usual distance we must work with our city partners. Until we have a race that draws participation like New York or Boston and have the support of non-runners in the city who come out and cheer runners on and don't mind the roads being closed, we will be limited in what roads we can have and for how long. So please encourage your friends and family to be cheerleaders on May 29st, 2016!
Note: Runners who aren’t at the 50K turnaround point at 10A st and Memorial Drive (36.6km into the race) by 11:30 will not be permitted to turn around and will be sent on to finish the marathon distance as there is a 6.5 hour cut off for this race.
You must pick up your race package at the Health and Wellness Expo. Bring your friends and family members with you as there will be plenty to see and admission is FREE! There is limited complimentary parking for the Health & Wellness Expo and two C-train stops at Stampede Park for convenient access.

It’s a term we hear all the time, but it has different meanings for different people. For us, it means doing what we can in our day-to-day life to maintain the environment. Over the past 51 years, there has been a huge shift in the way we live and we’ve seen the impact on the world around us. To ensure the sustainability of our environment and our city, we all need to take many small actions to improve our surroundings for future generations. We know that nothing beats the allure of the great outdoors when it comes to running!
The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon is in its fifth year of dedicating time, energy and resources to reduce the environmental impact of the race. The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon aims to build upon the previous year’s green initiatives to create an even more sustainable event for the whole family, and we need your help!
The Sustainability Program offers simple, easy to adopt choices to help you be a green athlete.
Learn more about the efforts to make the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon a leader in race event sustainability.
Everyone has a part to play in sustainability, as we are all stewards of the planet. This extends to Race Weekend and what you can do to contribute. We aspire to provide you with simple, easy to adopt choices to help you Be a Green Athlete in ways that make a difference.
Reducing, reusing and recycling are three easy ways to help limit our environmental impact. Let us help you incorporate the 3Rs into your regular running routine AND on Race Day! Take the “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Challenge” when you register for any Scotiabank Calgary Marathon event and commit to making green choices on race day.
You could win 1,000 CAR2GO Minutes + a lifetime membership!
Before you accept the challenge you will be asked to commit to adopting the 3Rs on Race Day:
Reduce your carbon footprint by using green transportation to get to the race (walking, biking, carpooling, public transit)
We are supporting your choice to Reduce your carbon footprint by providing a secure bike valet on Race Day and by being accessible by transit with two C-train platforms that service Stampede Park.
Reuse your water bottle and forgo paper cups
We are supporting your choice to Reuse your water bottle and forgo paper cups by introducing new hydration jugs with quick pour valves and by dedicating “Race Recycler” volunteers, visible in their green shirts, at aid stations to assist runners.
Recycle all that you can and leave nothing behind
We are supporting your choice to Recycle all that you can by providing solar-powered compost, recycle and waste bins and to leave nothing behind by providing clear bags and a secure bag check so you take out what you take in.
Committing to the 3R’s is a big step towards becoming a green athlete. The winner will be announced on the Calgary Marathon Facebook page on Race Day. Thank you for choosing to Be a Green Athlete.
Join the “Race Recyclers” in their quest to divert waste from the landfill and educate participants, spectators and volunteers about how they can do their part.
Throughout The Health and Wellness Expo and on Race Day, “Race Recyclers” are charged with being green ambassadors.
