The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon Race Weekend is the premier race of the Calgary Marathon Society. Taking place in early spring,  kicking off the race season and consisting of a race for every age and ability.

What's an extra 7.805K ... really?

The plan was just to have the 50K Ultra for one year however we didn’t know there were so many lofty runners looking to challenge themselves further and go an extra 7.805K (as if a marathon isn’t tough enough!)

In 2014, the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon launched a 50K Ultra Road Race in celebration of the 50th Anniversary and 500 runners signed up for the sold out race with a whopping 410 finishers crossing the line in the 6.5 hour cut off. Following the race, many provided feedback through survey results, social media and by way of email asking us to keep the 50K. 

For newcomers to ultra-running, the 50K Ultra, part of the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon Race Weekend, is a great way to get in to longer distances and for ultra veterans, it’s a wonderful way to be part of a big city, mass participation event!

National Championships - National Championships in 2018 Pending. In 2017 the organizing committee was thrilled to be awarded the National Championships for the third year in a row by the Association of Canadian Ultramarathoners (ACU). 

International Designation - Designation in 2018 Pending. The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) is designating the 50K Ultra as a trophy series race and issuing the event a bronze label, which is the international sanctioning for ultra races.

The trophy series is an international 50K series where runners can qualify at any of the designated series race to compete in the 50K world trophy race. The top man under 3:20 and top woman under 3:50 will automatically qualify for the world race. If nobody breaks those times there will be no qualification and if more than one person breaks those times it’s only the first runner in each gender who will qualify.

De retour suite à la demande…

Au départ, nous devions organiser le 50KM Ultra pour une seule année. Nous étions loin de nous douter qu’il existait autant de coureurs ambitieux prêts à relever le défi d’un 7.805 Km d’extra (comme si un marathon n’était pas déjà assez difficile !)

En 2014, la Banque Scotia a donc décidé de lancer le 50KM Ultra de route pendant les festivités du 50e anniversaire et pas moins de 500 coureurs se sont inscrit ! La course affichait donc complet et ce sont 410 coureurs qui ont franchi la ligne d’arrivée en moins de 6.5 heures. Après la course, plusieurs ont exprimé par sondage, par réseau sociaux et par email qu’ils désiraient qu’on continue d’offrir le 50km.

Pour les novices à la course Ultra, le 50km Ultra qui prendra part à la fin de semaine de marathon de la Banque Scotia de Calgary, est une occasion en or pour commencer dans les plus longues distances de course. Pour les vétérans, l’occasion est parfaite pour célébrer un événement d’une telle envergure !

Même s’il s’agit de votre premier marathon ou encore de votre 50e, nommée la Meilleur Course de Route en Alberta en 2014, 2013, 2012, 2010 et 2009, le Marathon Banque Scotia de Calgary est tout simplement le bon choix.

Peu importe si vous vous entraînez pour votre première course de 21,1 km ou si vous êtes déjà un vétéran, le demi-marathon Centaur Subaru vous met au défi! Cet évènement est en plein essor parce que de plus en plus de gens découvre une passion pour la course. Le demi-marathon Centaur Subaru est stimulant sans être trop intimidant et  il peut servir de bonne référence d’entrainement annuel pour un premier ou un prochain marathon.

This is a unique format that allows young people to participate in their first marathon. Kids start running or walking their marathon one KM at a time completing 41 KM by Sunday, May 27th, 2018. On race day the kids will complete the last 1.2 KM of their marathon along with elite and citizen runners at the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon.

Please Note: We request that all children 5 and over run without parents. Children 5 and under may run with one parent.

There are many great viewing locations along the course to watch your child run. Once your child crosses the finish line they will enter the “kids finish corral” where they will receive a medal and snack and be released into the “Parents Corral”. Please go to the “Parents Corral” to pick up your child. You will require your matching race bib to exit this area. In the unlikely event that you cannot find your child, there will be a volunteer with a large “Lost Child” sign to help you reunite with your child.

Avec un format de course conçus uniquement pour permettre aux jeunes de participer à leur premier marathon,  les enfants pourront courir ou marcher un KM à la fois jusqu’au dimanche 31 mai 2015 afin de compléter 41 KM. Par la suite, il ne leur reste que les derniers 1,2 km à parcourir et ce, avec le reste des coureurs élites et citoyens le jour même du Marathon de la Banque Scotia de Calgary.

On race day the kids will complete the last 1.2 KM of their marathon along with elite and citizen runners at the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon.
